We provide scaffold access over conservatories and other ground-floor extensions, creating safe working platforms for repairs, maintenance and building work above. Contact us for a free quote, and we’ll discuss the access your property needs.
See examples of scaffolding we have installed over conservatories and similar extensions, with each structure arranged around the property and the area that needed to be reached.
A conservatory can make otherwise straightforward work at the rear of a property considerably more difficult.
The area that needs attention may be the wall, windows, guttering, or roofline directly above it, but the conservatory occupies the ground where a conventional scaffold would normally be positioned.
Instead, the scaffold needs to be planned around the obstruction while still providing contractors with a useful working platform at the required height.
Depending on the property, this may involve supporting the scaffold from suitable positions around the conservatory and bridging across it with beams to reach the elevation above.
Where space allows, scaffold can be positioned around the conservatory to support the required working area. Where the conservatory itself needs to be spanned, scaffold beams can bridge across it and support the platform above.
This allows the scaffold structure to carry the working platform without relying on the conservatory roof as its supporting base.
The arrangement will depend on the conservatory’s width and projection, the space available around it, and the height and position of the work being carried out.
If contractors need access higher up the property, we can add extra working levels as needed.
Where conventional support positions are restricted, cantilever scaffolding may provide an alternative method of extending working platforms beyond the supporting structure, depending on site conditions.
Once the working platform is in position, contractors can reach parts of the property that would otherwise be difficult to access from below.
Depending on the building and the work taking place, scaffolding over a conservatory can provide access for:
The scaffold can be concentrated around the work area rather than automatically extending across parts of the property that don’t require access. Our residential scaffolding services also cover a wide range of home repairs, renovations and maintenance projects.
The word “conservatory” covers a wide range of structures.
Some extend only a short distance from the property, while others cover a substantial part of the rear elevation. Their roofs can also vary in shape, height, and construction.
The space surrounding the conservatory can be just as important.
Garden walls, fences, neighbouring boundaries, extensions, changes in ground level and narrow access routes can all affect the positions available for the scaffold.
We therefore assess the conservatory and surrounding property before determining how to provide the required working area.
Conservatories aren’t the only structures that can block straightforward access to an elevation.
Single-storey extensions, porches and projecting roofs can create a similar problem when work is required on the elevation above them.
Key factors include the obstruction’s position and size, the available support positions and where contractors need to work. Our team can advise accordingly.
Where appropriate, a scaffold can span these lower structures to provide access to the roofline. Our roofing scaffolds also provide platforms for repairs, maintenance and replacement coverings.
A conservatory needs to be treated differently from an ordinary area of ground beneath a scaffold.
Glass panels, roof frames, and other parts of the structure must be considered while the scaffold is installed, used, and eventually dismantled.
The scaffold position is therefore planned around the conservatory, rather than treating its roof as a surface on which to support the working structure.
The surrounding garden also needs consideration. Fences, walls, neighbouring boundaries, and the available route into the rear of the property can all influence how the scaffold is approached and installed.
That is why photographs showing both the conservatory and the surrounding space can be particularly useful when we first look at the job.
Typically, yes; however, this depends on the scaffold arrangement and where access is required around the conservatory. If a particular door or route needs to remain accessible while the scaffold is in place, let us know when requesting a quotation so we can consider it before installation.
Restricted space can affect the way the scaffold is arranged, but it doesn’t necessarily mean access cannot be provided. Send us photographs showing both sides of the conservatory, including nearby fences, walls, and boundaries, so we can see how much room is available.
If the proposed arrangement requires access to or support from neighbouring land, you will need permission from the property owner before our scaffolders can install that part of the scaffold.
Yes. Glass conservatories are one situation where the scaffold arrangement needs particular consideration. The conservatory roof is not used to support the working scaffold. Instead, we plan the structure around the conservatory, using suitable supporting positions to create the access needed for work above while avoiding unnecessary load on the glass roof.
The hire period can be agreed upon around the work being carried out. When requesting your quotation, let us know approximately how long your contractor expects to need the scaffold.
There is no single set price because the amount of scaffolding required can vary considerably between properties. The span over the conservatory, the working platform height, the number of working levels, access to the property, and the required hire period can all affect the cost.
Not necessarily. Clear photographs and information about the work may be enough for us to assess a straightforward project initially. If access or the scaffold arrangement needs closer inspection, we may need a site visit before confirming the quotation.
Tell us which part of the property you need to reach, and send photographs showing the conservatory and the elevation above it.
We can then assess the access requirements and provide a quotation for the conservatory scaffold installation and hire.
