Frequently Asked Questions

A few answers to common questions about arranging scaffolding with Mays.

There isn’t a fixed price for scaffolding because every property and project is different. The cost will depend on factors such as the size and layout of the building, the access required, the type of scaffold and how long it is needed for. Send us the property location, details of the work and some photographs where possible, and we can provide a quotation.

Scaffolding erected entirely on private property will not normally require a licence simply for the scaffold itself. If any part of the structure needs to be placed on or over a public highway, pavement or other public area, permission or a scaffold licence may be required from the relevant local authority. We can discuss access and positioning with you when looking at the project.

This will depend on the information available and whether we need to visit the property before providing a price. Sending us the project location, details of the work and clear photographs of the building and access can help us assess what is required. If your project has a particular start date, let us know when you enquire.

The required hire period can be discussed when we provide your quotation. Let us know how long you expect the work to take so this can be considered from the outset. If the project takes longer than expected, contact us to discuss extending the hire period.

Yes. We work directly with homeowners as well as builders, roofers, contractors and commercial clients. Whether you’re arranging work yourself or a tradesperson has asked you to organise the scaffold, you can contact us directly for a quotation.

In some situations, scaffolding can be designed to provide working access above or around a conservatory where standards cannot simply be positioned directly below the required working area. The appropriate arrangement will depend on the property, the conservatory and the work being carried out, so we would need to assess the individual project before confirming what is suitable.

Yes. Emergency scaffolding is available when urgent access or temporary support is required following unexpected damage or another situation that needs prompt attention. Contact us directly with the property location and details of the problem so we can assess what is required.

Start by sending us the property address or postcode and a brief description of the work being carried out. Photographs showing the building and the surrounding access are particularly useful. If you already know when the work is due to start and approximately how long the scaffold will be required, include those details with your enquiry.
