Access Scaffold for Fascia Repairs, Northbourne, Godalming - Cost £600

We provided scaffolding at Northbourne, Godalming, GU7, giving contractors safe working access to the fascias along the rear roofline of the two-storey property.

The scaffold measured approximately 4.5 metres long by 4 metres high, with two lifts and a five-board-deep upper working platform.

As the scaffold was being installed at a property occupied by a Southern Housing tenant, the installation included scaffold netting and protective foam. A gin wheel was also fitted for lifting materials, and a scaffold tag was provided for the required weekly inspections.

The scaffold was supplied with four weeks’ hire for £600.

Access for Fascia Work at the Rear of the Property

At approximately 4 metres high, the top lift provided the upper working level for the fascia work. The platform was constructed five boards deep, providing a fully boarded working area close to the roofline.

Double handrails were installed around the upper level, together with stop-end handrails at the ends of the platform. Access to the working lift was via an external ladder, which needed to be positioned against the scaffold at the start of each working day, with a ladder safety gate provided at the access point.

The completed scaffold was positioned against the rear of the brick property, with the working platform running beneath the fascia.

For similar domestic property repairs, our residential scaffold installations provide safe working platforms for roofing, fascia, soffit and other exterior work.

Netting and Foam for Additional Safety

The scaffold was netted around the upper working level, while protective foam was fitted to the exposed standards and rakers, which were tied back to the ledgers.

Both features are clearly visible in the completed scaffold, with green netting around the upper section and yellow protective foam covering the lower parts of the relevant scaffold tubes.

Gin Wheel for Lifting Materials

A gin wheel was fitted at the top of the scaffold to lift materials from ground level to the working platform.

The wheel was attached above the upper working level, with the lifting rope running down to the ground. This provided the contractors with a way to raise materials required for the fascia work to the platform.

Raker Support Instead of Apollo Ties

The scaffold support method was an important part of this installation.

The customer did not want the scaffold anchored into the brick wall using Apollo ties, so raker support was used instead.

Two 21ft scaffold tubes were used as rakers and tied back to the base-lift ledgers using two 5ft tubes. Four 16ft tubes were used as horizontal ledgers as part of the supporting scaffold.

The photograph shows the rakers extending diagonally from the scaffold towards ground level on both sides of the installation.

Tubes and Bracing Used for the Scaffold

A combination of scaffold tube lengths was used to construct the two lifts and provide the required standards, handrails, transoms and bracing.

The materials included three 21ft tubes and three 10ft tubes hemped with 10ft tubes for the standards. Two 13ft tubes were used for the handrails, while approximately sixteen 5ft tubes were used for the transoms, stop-end handrails and ladder halo.

Bracing was installed on both levels. Two 10ft tubes were used for sway bracing, with two further 10ft tubes providing ledger bracing on the first lift and two 5ft tubes providing ledger bracing on the second lift.

Scaffold Tag and Weekly Inspections

A scaffold tag was fitted when the scaffold was completed.

The scaffold required weekly inspections throughout the four-week hire period, with the tag providing a visible record of its inspection status. This allowed the inspection details to be recorded on the scaffold itself and updated following each required check.

As the scaffold remained in use at an occupied Southern Housing property, the tag and ongoing inspections were required while it was on site.
